Summer 2018: Getting to China

It’s Sunday evening and we are finally starting to feel like we are in our new time zone. After I finished my Spring semester, I flew to California to work a week before flying to where I picked up the kids.

After picking up the kids, we flew to DFW (Dallas Fort Worth), and then to NRT (Narita International Airport), and then connected into Shanghai. In all, it was 19 hours of flying plus layovers for the kids, and 28 hours of flying plus layovers for me.

The Admirals Club lounges are life-savers, especially on long international flights. We were able to rest a bit (and I was able to shower) at the lounge in DFW and NRT. Snacks, soup, and coffee in Dallas. Narita, snacks, coffee, etc., plus sushi, beer, wine (they have a tap that tips your glass and pours it for you).

Upon landing in Shanghai, it took about 15 minutes to clear customs (thankfully not as busy this time). I had reserved a hotel ($21) a night close to the hotel so we could sleep after the long hours of flights.

The second day, we moved into our Airbnb in the French Concession area of Shanghai. It’s small, but it’s nice. It’s three stories with the top being a bedroom, the middle is the bathroom, kitchen, and living room, and the bottom is the second bedroom.

That was Saturday, May 26. Now the real adventures can begin!
